In this novella, which is more of a prose poem, the trauma of giving birth is set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic scenario, following an environmental disaster. Amidst supermarket panics and food shortages, our narrator is forced to flee northwards as a refugee from a submerged London. Her survival technique to live from day to day is reflected in brief episodic snatches of narration, making her testimony all the more harrowing.
